THE EYE OF THE STORM!
You’ve most likely heard the phrase “The Eye of the Storm”, and maybe even sang it in a song. It is often used as a metaphor for going through a really difficult time. This past week, as Hurricane Milton came through our area, many of you had the experience of going outside in the literal “Eye of the Storm.” We did at our house. What an amazing experience! Just when it felt like the storm was about to destroy everything around you, you were able to stand in the middle of the storm – in total calm and peace. It was very cool, yet very eerie at the same time. However, you also knew that the storm wasn’t over. As a matter of fact, the worst was yet to come.
“The Eye of the Storm” is a reminder that not only is God with us in the middle of the storm, but that when we embrace his presence and his protection, He is “The Eye of the Storm” for us. He is our calm and our peace. Being in the middle of a storm means that you’re only halfway through it, and often times the worst is yet to come. But, it is the confidence of God’s presence and His peace that gives us the ability to hang onto God and to endure whatever the storm brings us.
WHY?
One of the biggest questions we all have is, “WHY?”... “Why does God allow these kinds of storms and disasters to happen to us?” Well, with all my years of teaching and studying scripture and theology, I can honestly say, “I don’t know?” To try to give a definitive answer would only be trying to figure out the motives of God that only He really knows (Isaiah 55:9).
Here's what I do know: God is Sovereign. That means He is in control of the world and everything in it. He doesn’t control it all , but it is all under His control. Nothing happens without His knowing and allowing. Therefore, as I put my Faith, my Hope, and my Trust in God, I know that no matter what happens – even if I don’t know the “Why?” – He will be with me, He will strengthen me, and He lead me to the place of peace He has prepared for me. Because - God is Good! (I think I hear an Amen)
