SALT AND LIGHT

During Jesus’ most famous sermon he made a statement that, as most of us often read it, we go “Hmmm”, and then keep on moving through the chapter. But, when Jesus told his disciples and the others who were present that they were the “Salt of the earth” and the “Light of the world”, he wasn’t just making an analogy for a future Sunday School lesson, he was making a declaration of what they were to become.

After all, Salt and Light both have properties that, when applied correctly, have the potential to influence and change their surroundings. And that is exactly what Jesus was instructing his followers – you are to live your lives in such a way that you actually have the ability to influence and change your surroundings – especially the people around you.

That is the perspective each one of us should have as we live our lives every day. Not only should we be aware of the fact that everything we do and say is influencing people, but we should take advantage of that opportunity to use our Saltiness and our Brightness to point people toward Jesus. Everywhere I go, every word I speak, every look I give, every attitude, and every conversation I have is influencing someone. The question for all of us is – “Are people around us in a better place because of our impact on their lives?”

FALL KICK-OFF SUNDAY

Mark your calendars now, for Sunday, September 15. This will be our annual Fall Kick-off Sunday as we start a new season of ministry here at ALC. We will combine our vision for the future with a “Grand Opening” celebration of our new facility. Even though not everything is completed, and the fact that we’ve been meeting in our new auditorium for several weeks, it will be a great time to bring some friends with you on that Sunday as we celebrate together. We will finish the day of celebration with a Night of Worship. I look forward to seeing you there.
