WHAT MATTERS MOST?

RIDING IT OUT OR MAKING THE MOST?

The more I study the Bible – especially the parts that tell us about what we should expect in the future – I often find myself stuck between one of two decisions. There’s a part of me that wants to hunker down and just ride things out until I meet Jesus. Then, there’s another part of me that wants to dig in and make the most of the time I have left on this earth. “Riding it out” seems like the easiest and less stressful way to go, but it also feels like the selfish and cowardly thing to do. “Making the most” feels like a lot of work, but I also know that the more I put into something, the more rewarding it will be. There’s just nothing more gratifying than to accomplish something that is meaningful.

That is the choice we all face today. Whether it’s because of how long we’ve been alive on this earth, or because of the feeling of being in the midst of End times prophecy, it’s a decision we face every day. It’s so easy to be consumed with our own lives that we lose sight of our purpose and mission here on this earth. Maybe we feel like “I’ve been there and done that”, so now we want to sit back and leave it to the next generation to carry on RIDING IT OUT OR MAKING THE MOST. Maybe we’re so busy building our own lives and families that it just feels like we’ve got nothing left to give to the things we know deep down that really matter. Or maybe, we just don’t care. I know that sounds harsh, but it’s also an all too familiar attitude many of us have.

There have been moments in the past 10 years that have caused me to think seriously about which direction I should go. I clearly remember a moment 10 years ago when I decided I was going to spend the rest of my days pursuing the things in life that really mattered. I committed to stop putting off the important things on my “Someday” list and just go ahead and do them. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you actually do it. The other thing I committed to was to be more intentional about “Reaching more people for Jesus” while I can.

There are so many good things we can do with our lives. In the end, will we have done the most important things? As we get closer to the conclusion of life here on this earth, will you just “Ride it out” or will you “Make the Most” of every opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of the people around you?

The most important thing we can do with our lives is to help people find Jesus.
